Good books for children are the stories that are written specifically for children and have main characters who are also children. That's why that children love and can relate to them. But the authors need to learn to write effectively to create characters in the story that are credible, authentic and kind. Want to create characters children can relate and understand. These characters must seem real, or at least as real as they are intended. Children are very intelligent and very perceptive, and not be fooled or entertain-for undeveloped character, in particular, the main character. There are several different subcategories of children from books, so it is hard to say how perfect characters to write about all these subcategories online only one or two. For example, picture books and easy readers for children and chapter books for beginning readers often have few words and many pictures. However, the illustrations used for your stories as this may be entirely beyond their control because they are created by an artist who is not necessarily work with you, but that might simply be taking the direction of an editor. Unless you are a writer, both history and illustrator, can have very little to say about the illustrations accompanying the text. As a rule, the less words in a book for children, the smallest number of words to be used to provide the description. You just do not have many words to spare! So we will have to rely on the wisdom of the illustrator to decide whether the character will have red, black, blond or brown hair, for example, unless it is critical to history. In situations where a detail that describes the physical appearance of the character must be verbalized, for example, if the story is about a boy who scoff because it has a large mole on his face, somewhere will need to include a sufficient description of the readers know that this has on the character and appearance. Beyond that, you just have to limit physical descriptions at all.

You see, with just a few words at his disposal with which to tell their story, just can not afford to waste nonessential physical descriptions. And indeed, you need to learn to write much more about the character of a person's physical attributes or description. So this is where I will focus their writing. You want to show the reader the character of the main character instead of telling respect. And the best way to do this is to allocate most of the words that are assigned to the history of their children for dialogue and action.

Descriptions writing they are often unnecessary for the creation and development of a well thought out and believable character. Characters in the story are much more than just the color of your skin or hair or height or weight or other physical characteristics that can be described. Learn to write good dialogue and a story based on the action, this is the key to the development of main characters. That's because much of our character is evident and is shown through our words, our thoughts and our actions. "No need to tell a child the main character in a story that is when the child says all this means to other children, think about things bad about other children, and acts mean to them, too. The character's personality shines loud and clear to show, not tell.

"Show, do not tell "is the spirit of good writing, and this applies to the stories for readers of all ages, not just children's books. However, in the books children where the author has to learn to write a story and develop the main character, with so few words to work, it becomes even more critical.

Bruce Coville is a prolific children's author. was recently the keynote speaker at the Summer Conference of the Society for Children and Illustrators. attended Bookwriters to this conference from a grant from the Arts Council of Nevada, and took these notes to share with those who organization. Frankly, I think they deserve a wider audience. If you are a writer or aspiring writer, this article is required reading.

Here is my memory of the most important things that I personally obtained the presentation of Bruce Coville. These are not his words. They are my memories. Also, my memory can be illustrated with examples from his book Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher (DH) to clarify.

 • Search history as late as possible in the action, so that people get involved.

 • Start with everyday things and then find a vehicle that allows transport the reader into a place of fantasy. ie pages 1 to 5 DH start with daily activities, partly to create a scenario of intimidation that these lines are set on page 6

 • Make a pledge to its readers on the steps to come, in a brief statement referred to many times in the book, and never disappoint the reader by not providing everything necessary to solve the trouble. For example, DH:

One summer evening the world is cracked,

However, Midsummer is patch.

 • You well to clarify the changes in what I refer to as the mantra later (for example, change the day of San Juan (which is the day Christian summer) at San Hallows Day (Halloween) if you guide the reader along with the change, namely

Jeremy recognized the poem, but that was the one who recited the night when the egg hatched. Or not? Seems different, somehow. (p.138) I think this is not only permissible, but good, because children are not lazy, they'll do a little research and say, "Ahhhhh, I understand." Â

 • Never a final chapter with all the details involved. Finish with something that will make the reader wants to return after finishing the chapter and go to bed at night. (Bruce, said he is afraid of children not coming back, and I believe him.) Examples:

   Chapter 1: "No," he said softly, he loves you. Chapter 2: "... Taking the directions, it was decided. Tonight it would be hatch a dragon.  Â

 • A good way to set the action to bring these things in the dialogue: "What do you want?" "What do you need?" "I have what you need."

 • Do not tell, show. Show through development based on character.

 • Write conversational dialog box. (He never said it, but all his examples were of conversation, and so is the material in his book.)

 • Establish a transcending (my word) environment. Use something that likes to create this environment. (Bruce uses a store magic-the magic shop he would have liked to go shopping in a youth.) Use this as a conduit between the real world and fantasy world.

Nature • based humor is important.

 • Never try to teach children. Entertain. (He never said it, but it shows in everything he does, and I'm including because is an important part of my philosophy of writing. I left to discover not try to teach me.)

There you have it, the vision of two renowned authors of children's books, one in less than 1,000 words. A good writing! May make an excellent contribution to children's literature.

In some communities around the world there are people who are designated as official storytellers for the community. But mostly, anyone can tell stories, all that is needed is the Teller, the public and a good story. When telling stories though, each teller should be aware that they need to adapt their approach to their audience. The Good storytellers do not imitate anyone else style to which they are telling stories, developing a style and a gift of themselves. They will also develop a repertoire of stories for varying times and select the right stories for different audiences.

If you have been asked to entertain a group of children - or any other group with a story, then worth taking some homework. When you say stories that have to be aware of the needs of their audience and their expectations. Only must use the stories you feel comfortable and know that you can say with full knowledge, emotions and beliefs.

Storytelling is an art form and probably find that a particular form or genre suits the story of his best style, in the same way that painters use special techniques or musicians prefer a style of music like jazz, classical or rock. You can choose to tell traditional stories, stories of a particular country or culture, funny stories, stories ghost or adventure yarn. Whatever form of story you choose, it must be right for you, the narrator and his audience.

These are stories of a small intimate group of up to, for example up to four, but not with a larger group. By telling stories, why not consider extracts "The Hobbit" by JRR Tolkien? This book is intended to be read aloud and often successful when told to larger groups.

Thus, the selection of stories to tell is a personal matter. The art of telling stories varies both between individuals and audiences and occasions that it is impossible to judge another the stories work on a particular day against a particular audience.
